Karese Laguerre

Karese, like many parents, suffered in silence while her children struggled with the symptoms of undiagnosed sleep and breathing issues. One visit to a pediatric dentist changed the trajectory of their lives. Already a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH), Karese, trained with Sandra Holtzman, Lois Laynee and Sarah Hornsby to establish her orofacial myology knowledge. With this initial training and numerous others, in a few short years she has not only resolved all her children's issues, but helped hundreds of patients, children and adults alike, discover how great life can be functioning on full. Her private practice, The Myo Spot, is now a leader in the quest for myofunctional therapy awareness and public education. Her latest published book, "Accomplished", delves into how to sleep better, eliminate burnout, and execute goals. Karese's mission is to transform and positively impact as many households as possible through dynamic breath, brain and body work.

Shannon Moczygemba

Shannon graduated in 2005 with an associate's degree in dental hygiene, and has spent the majority of her career as an RDH working in pediatric dentistry.

Her journey to become an orofacial myofunctional therapist began after coming across an article that listed the signs and symptoms of sleep disordered breathing in children. Instantly, her daughter came to mind as she presented with all but one symptom on that list. As an RDH, she was aware her mouth breathing wasn't normal, but had no idea it meant she was suffering from sleep disordered breathing. She also had no idea how negatively it was impacting her quality of sleep, her quality of life, and the development of her growing face.

Shannon's new found awareness led her on a mission to get her daughter the help she so desperately needed. After extensive research online, she discovered that Myofunctional Therapy could be a potential solution to help address her daughter's issues, and came across Sarah Hornsby with whom she completed her first training to become an Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist. Shannon followed that training with courses from Sandra Holtzman and Becky Ellsworth, The MyoFocus Group, and Autumn Henning.

Shannon's practice name is Myofunctional Harmony and Wellness. She is the administrator of two FaceBook groups, "OMT for the RDH" and "Texas Tongue Tie Support Group for Babies".

Sarah Johnson

Sarah is the founder of Enlightened Hygiene, Inc. and Myofunctional Partners in Los Angeles, CA where she provides myofunctional therapy and Buteyko breathing re-education for children and adults. Prior to the pandemic, her company was a nationally approved AGD PACE provider for continuing education related to lasers, airway, periodontitis, and practice management in dentistry. She now serves on the RDHAP council of the California Dental Hygienists' Association, the CDHA Task Force on Myofunctional Therapy, and independently advocates for hygienists who practice myofunctional therapy. Sarah has accumulated over 22 years of experience in the dental field, practicing dental hygiene for about 19 years.

She earned a degree in Human Biology from Michigan State University, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Dental Hygiene from Roane State in Tennessee, which has been awarded the ADHA's Faculty Recognition Award two years in a row. Sarah received training in the Buteyko Breathing Method by Patrick McKeown, earning the CertBBM designation, and attended the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy where she spent over 100 continuing education hours learning about Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders and their relationships to sleep, airway, breathing, chewing and oral phase swallowing, TMD and oral health, tethered oral tissues, and other neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and general health conditions. She also completed introductory curriculum with the IAOM via Kim Benkert and is a Fellow of the World Clinical Laser Institute.

Her passion as a Myofunctional Therapist is to raise awareness of these logical solutions in the dental and health communities, and to support fellow dental hygienists in career advancement outside the confines of the dental office.
